Transforming Mission Mobilization in Africa: People and Places
Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Send Africa Network is to bless the nations of the world through total mobilization of Africans and all people of African descent for a willing, intentional, and joyful giving of people and resources to the Mission of God. Since 2018, a number of watchful heralds have been touting how Africa is the most Christian continent in the world today. Simultaneously, we have also been introspectively inquiring, “Will this be just a passing moment or a memorable movement?” The 20th century has seen a significant shift in Africa’s religious landscape, with Christianity growing from 9% in 1900 to nearly 50% by 2020. This demographic change is significant, but even more so when we consider that the current number of Christians will be doubling to exceed 2.5 billion by 2050. Meanwhile, nearly half of the world’s youth will be African by that time. Yet, all of these demographic dynamics will mean nothing much to the mission of God without transforming mission mobilization in Africa as we have known it.
Consequently, the theme for this Send Africa Network Summit 2025 is “Transforming Mission Mobilization in Africa: People and Places.” This theme suggests the need to rethink and reshape how the mission of God is perceived and operationalized on the African continent, seeking out two focus for transformation: the people (youth/young people, intergenerational discipleship and leadership, marketplace Christians) and the places (the specific geographic, social, and economic areas, especially the marketplace). Transformation, however, is not an event but a process. Consequently, the mission of transforming African mission mobilization, which began at Send Africa Network Summit 2022, continued unabated in 2023, geographically moving the table around which we gathered from Ghana to Kenya, from West to East Africa. Now, we shift the lens towards Southern Africa. Still with an eye on transforming African missions, the summit will be held from the 14th to the 16th of May 2025 at Selbourne Park Christian Church, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
In the same spirit of the leaders of the tribe of Issachar, who “understood the times and knew what Israel should do” (1 Chronicles 12:32), Christian leaders on the continent and in the diaspora convene at Send Africa 2025 to discern the times and trends—among the people and places—and respond appropriately, decisively, as far as mission mobilization is concerned. At the Send Africa Network, we are persuaded that we cannot keep thinking and doing missions in the same ways and expect new results. We are aware that this historic moment in African Christianity demands that we see African and global missions through new lenses. Send Africa 2025 is about going deep and thinking long-term, dealing with the hard questions, and seeking transformation of mission mobilization in the distinguishing wisdom and enabling power of the Holy Spirit.
This is a special invitation for you to join us at the summit and contribute to the discourse-transforming mission in Africa. Oh for a tidal wave of deeply transformed Christians on the African continent and in the diaspora—people and places—comprising the largest mission movement the world has ever seen, flooding all nations with God’s glory, amen!

THEME: Transforming African Mission Mobilization
There are more Christians in Africa than on any other continent. By 2050 there will be even more Christ followers in Africa than the next two continents combined.
If these numbers would be translated into a significant mission force to complete the Great Commission in this century, then African mission mobilization would require some urgent and effective transforming.
Embedded in ‘transforming’ is re-envisioning, re-imagining, reforming and retooling of the total mission mobilization process itself as well as the end product to deeply change the church and the world. It means re-thinking our theology and practice of mission for 21st century global, transnational, multi-national communities.
The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukraine war on mission and mission mobilization in Africa and from Africa calls us to more in-depth missional reflection. In what ways can the African mission uniquely lead from the front? What is our creative and innovative edge that can help tackle the challenges facing African and global missions? What quality of mission will African Christianity bequeath the world in 2030 and 2050? What skills, capabilities and training should African mobilizers possess?
What should be our mobilization priorities in the next 10 years? What should we do now to be the most effective, innovative, productive mobilization force?
At SAN we are persuaded that we cannot keep thinking and doing missions in the same ways and expect new results. We are aware that this historic moment in African Christianity demands that we see African and global missions through new lenses. The SAN 2022 Summit is about going deep and thinking long-term, dealing with the hard questions, and seeking transformation of mission mobilization in the wisdom, power, and enablement of the Holy Spirit.
